FAA Drug and Alcohol Program Consulting

Are you confident your FAA Drug and Alcohol Program fully meets all regulatory requirements?

When the FAA Calls, Will Your Program Hold Up?

An FAA Drug Abatement Division inspection is more than just a routine visit. Inspectors carefully review every part of your drug and alcohol testing program, including your records, procedures, vendor management, and staff. They use a checklist, but their final report is based on their judgment. The results can lead to financial penalties, certificate actions, and a compliance record that stays with your organization. Many operators only discover issues when an inspector is already on site. FDTS is here to help you avoid that situation.

Inspection Preparation From Someone Who Ran These Inspections

Greg Henderson, the founder of Federal Drug Testing Services, brings firsthand experience as a former FAA Drug and Alcohol Compliance Enforcement Inspector. He has personally conducted these inspections for the Federal Aviation Administration, reviewing the same types of programs, asking the same questions, and making the same findings that your organization might encounter. This unique perspective sets FDTS apart from other private compliance training and consulting firms. When FDTS prepares your program for an FAA inspection, it draws on direct knowledge of how inspections work, what inspectors look for, and the common areas where even well-meaning programs often fall short.

The FDTS Mock FAA Inspection

The best way to prepare for an inspection is to go through the process beforehand.

FDTS offers mock FAA Drug Abatement Division inspections that follow the same methods used by federal inspectors. Here’s what the process looks like:

Pre-Inspection Document Request: FDTS sends a document request similar to what an FAA inspector would send before arriving. This includes records, policies, testing logs, vendor agreements, training documents, and DER records. Your team gathers these materials just as they would for an actual inspection.

On-Site Review: FDTS carefully reviews your submitted documents, checking each program area against the requirements of 14 CFR Part 120 and 49 CFR Part 40. We identify and document any gaps, inconsistencies, or missing items. DER Interview: We interview your DER using the same format and questions as a real FAA inspection. This is not a test but a practice session to help your team understand how an inspection might progress or be resolved.

Findings Report: After the mock inspection, FDTS provides a written report that lists all issues found, organized by program area. Each finding includes the relevant regulatory citation and a recommended corrective action. Corrective Action Support: FDTS then helps your team develop and implement these corrective actions before a real inspection, so you can fix any problems ahead of time.
